Home on leave for a Christmas 2008 get-together were three members of the Curry family who are in the military.

For the first time since completing basic training, cousins Michal Dean O’malley, who is in the Marines, and Christopher Michael Curry, who is in the Army, along with another cousin, Mychal Andrew Earl, who has been in the Air Force since 2005, were all in Giles County visiting their respective families.

Marine O’malley is the son of Bobby and Lori Curry O’malley; Army Soldier Curry is the son of Mike and Lina Curry; and Airman Earl is the grandson of Jini Curry Henson and Rich Bowland.

That’s three branches of the military the Curry family represent.

“But we have all four branches covered,” Henson said about yet another Curry cousin who is in the military.

Josh Curry, son of Pat and Sandy Curry and Terri Curry, is in the Navy. Stationed on the east coast, Josh Curry was not able to make it home for Christmas gathering at Henson’s home last year.

O’malley is now at Twentynine Palms California, north of Palm Springs, in combat training.

Earl is being sent to Qatar, Turkey, a base where supplies are sent from to Iraq.

Michael Curry is in Maryland, where he is receiving advanced infantry training. To add to the family tradition of military service, Michael received basic training at the same Army base his father, Mike, received basic training, according to Henson.

“Mychal Andrew has decided to make a career out of his military service, and Michael Dean didn’t want to be left out,” she said of the different reasons the Curry family young men have gone into the military.
