Mr. Arthur W. Sulser, 88, of Ardmore, Ala., died Dec. 2, 2009.
He was born May 2, 1921, in Taft. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Washington and Bertha McCluskey Sulser.

Mr. Urel Tarris Newton, 75, of Elkton died Dec. 5, 2009.

Mrs. Avis Tomerlin Henderson, 89, of Ardmore, Tenn., died Dec. 7, 2009.
She was a lifelong member of Cash Point Baptist Church, where she was a beloved Sunday school teacher and director and teacher of Vacation Bible School for more than 50 years.
She was a revered elementary school teacher for 30 years, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International since 1974 and was named Giles County Teacher of the Year in 1981.
She is preceded in death y her husband, Eugene Wilson Henderson; parents Myron Grant and Lois Smith Tomerlin; brother William Lester Tomerlin; and son-in-law Charles Ray Hicks.

Elkton Mayor Billy D. Ware, 77, died peacefully in his sleep Dec. 17, 2009, in a Huntsville, Ala., hospital.
The mayor was a member of Elkton United Methodist Church and was retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant with 27 years of service. He served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
He also was retired from the Department of Defense after 20 years of service, a member of the Patriot Guard, a Shriner and 32 degree Mason and was a longtime mayor of the city of Elkton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fall and Marge Ware; daughter Heidi Henderson; brother William Ware; and sisters, Grace and Hazel.

Mr. Myron (Pap) Wolaver, 101, of the Diana community died Dec. 19, 2009.
He was born Oct. 7, 1908, and “Pap” was a well-known owner and breeder of Tennessee Walking horses and mules.
The highlight and joy of his life was barbecuing goat and pork for the annual cookout he hosted for his many friends, family members celebrating his birthdays along with trail rides.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver C. and Maxie Clark Wolaver; and brothers, Steger Wolaver, Harold Wolaver, Knox Wolaver and Duell Wolaver.

Mrs. Mary Daily Lumsden, 87, of Pulaski died Dec. 29, 2009, at NHC HealthCare.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David Lumsden; her parents, Ott Neal and Maude Witherow Daily; and sister Polly Hill.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30 at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home with Brandon Britton officiating. Burial was in Giles Memory Gardens.
Survivors include her brother, Fagan Daily and wife Martha of Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Joseph T. (Tommy) Jackson, 62, of Madison, Ala., formerly of the Stella community in Giles County, died Dec. 30, 2009, at Cogburn Health Facility in Huntsville, Ala.
He was retired from Solutia in Decatur, Ala.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Luster and Annie Appleton Jackson.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2 in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home with Paul Clements officiating. Burial was in Stella Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Smith Jackson of Madison, Ala.; son Philip Jackson of Madison; sister Beverly Dodd of Huntsville; nephews, David Dodd and wife Jill of Madison and Byron Dodd and wife Michelle of Owens Cross Roads, Ala.; three great-nephews and one great-niece.
Ms. Flora Darlene Yates, 50, of Ethridge died Dec. 19, 2009, at her residence.
She is preceded in death by brother Danny Lee Yates.
A graveside service was held Dec. 26 at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Edith Yates of Ethridge; father J.D. Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Mitchell, 39, of the Rose Hill community died Dec. 25, 2009, at her residence.
She was born June 23, 1970, in Mount Clemens, Mich.
A memorial service was held Jan. 9 at New Zion Baptist Church with Larry Thomas officiating.

Survivors include her parents, Frederick A. and Darlene Maintzer Simmons; twin boys Devon and Cal Mitchell; brothers, Frederick A. Simmons III and Frank P. Simmons II; and sister Mary Elizabeth Simmons.
Mr. Malcolm Winfield Jones, 88, of Pulaski died Dec. 14, 2009, at Hillside Hospital.
He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Giles County and was retired as a senior engineer for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Ezell and Jimmie Lou Phillips Jones; son Dennis Winfield Jones; brother Marion Jones; and sister Laura Anderson.
Funeral services were held De. 16, 2009, at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Survivor include his wife, Martha Deane Jones; daughter Janice Jones Braly, both of Pulaski; brother Billy Don Jones of Decatur, Ala.; and grandchildren, Julianna Lawhorn and Drew Braly.
