Elkmont Tops Ardmore

Three touchdowns in the second half helped the Alabama Class 3A Elkmont Red Devils win an Aug. 27 rivalry game 42-21 over the Ardmore, Ala., Tigers.

Ardmore, 0-1, will play another in-county rival and open Class 4A, Region 8 play at West Limestone at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 3.

Tiger quarterback J. Tribble threw three touchdown passes in the first half and finished with 17 completions in 27 attempts for 185 yards and one interception.

Receiver Michael Fogg caught a 54-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and an 18-yard scoring pass with 27.3 seconds left in the first half. Kyle Hutchinson kicked the extra point after Fogg’s second touchdown pass for a 21-21 tie at halftime.

Matt Teeples, one of Tribble’s leading receivers from last season, caught a 5-yard scoring pass in the second quarter. Tribble ran for the two-point conversion. 

For Elkmont, Edwin Glass caught a 21-yard pass from Hayden Huseth in the first quarter with Jose Hernandez kicking the extra point.

The Red Devils added a touchdown in the second quarter on Glass’s 11-yard run and another on a 31-yard pass down the left side from Huseth to Connor Anderson.

James Day scored on 37 and 3-yard runs in the third quarter and Huseth on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. Hernandez kicked six extra points. Huseth’s touchdown came with 11:43 left in the last period.

Ardmore, with several players playing on offense and defense, wore down in the second half. However, the Tigers stopped Elkmont late in the game after the Red Devils recovered a muffed Ardmore punt return at the Tiger 10-yard line.
