
Shelter Insurance stayed within a game of First National Bank in Giles County Softball Prep League play at Richland Park last week.
Shelter got a win over Johnson’s Foodtown while First National Bank had to come from behind to beat JC/Greene Construction.
First National Bank (7-1) has what equates to a two-game lead having beaten Shelter Insurance (6-2) twice this season.
First National Bank controls its own fate over the next two weeks. The team can lose one of its remaining three games and win the league.
First National was scheduled to play Johnson’s Foodtown (5-3) last night (Monday).
To catch the league leader, Shelter Insurance must win its final three games, including a showdown with First National June 16, and hope First National loses an additional game.
In Minor League standings, Magotteaux, which clinched the league title two weeks ago, remains undefeated at 9-0.
Southern Restoration has also clinched the Little League title and remains undefeated at 8-0.
All four teams are still in the race for the top of the Junior/Senior League standings.
First National Bank has the early lead at 3-0. Bank of Frankewing, Team Wynn and Dr. Pepper are all tied at 1-2. Each team has six games remaining.

Timken 4
Southern Restoration never let up on offense against Timken in a prodigious scoring effort.
Timken actually held an early 4-3 lead. However, Southern Restoration batted around in the fourth and sixth innings, scoring eight runs and six runs, respectively, to take absolute control of the game.
Griggs pitched a complete game to get the victory behind the tremendous offensive performance.
Griggs also performed well at the plate, hitting a double and three singles.
Hawk and Rose hit two singles each, and Schmidt hit one single.
For Timken, Bub hit a single.

First National Bank defeated Bank of Frankewing 7-3, behind a strong pitching performance by Ashton Edwards.
First National scored three runs in the first and fifth innings to back up Edwards in the win.
Edwards hit a homerun and a single to help her own cause on the mound for First National.
Ashton Henderson, Kayce Currin and Holley Newton each hit two singles.
Shannon Higgins and Heather Hatfield each hit a single.
Bank of Frankewing was led by Morgan May and Taylor Parker, who each hit two singles. Ali May hit one single.
Wynn 11
Dr. Pepper 10
Team Wynn was able to outlast Dr. Pepper 11-10 to grab their first win of the season.
Dr. Pepper took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning, but Wynn scored five, two and four runs over the next three innings to pull off the walk-off victory.
For Wynn, pitcher Devan Hasty picked up the win.
Hasty also hit a triple and a double.
Chelsea Miller hit a double and a single.
Julie Pierce, Rebecca Few and Jasmine B. Howard each hit one single.
For Dr. Pepper, Mary Beth Brumit was just a triple shy of the cycle, hitting a homerun, double and a single. Amanda Old also hit a homerun.
Ashley Byrd hit a double.
Addison Gowan and Howard each hit two singles. Alicia, Varletta and Shug each hit one single.

JC/Greene 6
First National Bank staged a furious rally to complete a 10-6 comeback victory over JC/Greene Construction.
JC scored four runs in the top of the first, but struggled defensively, committing four errors in the loss.
Caylee Parker and Lexi Barnickle pitched for First National.
Hope Calahan smashed two homeruns on offense, to go along with a single.
For JC/Greene Construction, Allison Griggs, Ali Hamlett and Taylor Teegarden each hit one single.

Shelter scored at least one run in every inning of a 9-2 victory over Johnson’s Foodtown.
Pitcher Hannah McComiskey shut down Johnson’s offense from start to finish.
The Shelter offense scored two runs in the first and three runs each in the second and third.
Rachel Norwood and Riley Neely led the Shelter offense with a double and a single each.
Jensen Harper hit one single.
Johnson’s was led by Hannah Burnett, who hit a triple.
Angel Howard and Katie Parker each hit a single.
Senior League

Wynn 0
First National Bank took an early 5-0 lead after the second inning over Wynn, but the deciding blow was dealt in the third inning when First National batted around and scored 10 runs.
Despite all the offense for First National, a defensive play by catcher Merianne Patterson stood out in the shut out win.
Team Wynn had a runner on first in the bottom of the third when Patterson dove to stop a wild pitch. The Wynn runner had taken off with the pitch, but Patterson fired a shot to second base from one knee, throwing out the runner with two feet to spare.
Ashton Henderson pitched the three inning shutout for First National in the victory.
Patterson and Ashton Edwards led the offense with a double and single each.
Kayce Currin hit two singles, and Shelby Whitworth and Holly Newton each hit one single.
For Wynn, Jamie Smith hit one single.
Dr. Pepper 10

Dr. Pepper gave up seven runs in the second inning, but was able to rally late to earn their first win of the season.
Dr. Pepper scored three runs in the top of the sixth, and held Bank of Frankewing to only one run for the win.
Mary Beth Brumit pitched for Dr. Pepper in the win. After giving up eight runs in the first two innings, she gave up only one run in the final four.
Ashley Boyd hit a double and three singles. Jasmine Howard, Amanda Old and Kate McComiskey each hit a double.
Brumit hit three singles. Varletta, Shug and Addison Gowan each hit one single.
For Bank of Frankewing, Morgan May hit a double and a single, and Taylor Parker and Paige Richardson each hit one single.
